Assam: Is Cachar dist a new hotspot for drug smugglers? Drugs worth over Rs 120 cr seized in less than 20 days

In the latest seizure, heroin worth a whopping Rs 105 crore was recovered from the possession of 3 individuals who were coming from Mizoram.

Has Assam’s Cachar district emerged as a hotspot for interstate drug smugglers? From the data available, narcotics to the tune of over Rs 100 crore have been seized in the district in less than 20 days in the month of May.

Strong vigil by the Assam Police has led to successful recovery of many such consignments.

In the latest seizure, heroin worth a whopping Rs 105 crore was recovered from the possession of 3 individuals who were coming from Mizoram. Acting on specific intelligence inputs in a pre-dawn operation, Cachar Police apprehended one woman and two men near Silchar-Aizawl Bypass, seizing 9 bags and 60 soap cases containing suspected heroin, totaling approximately 10.333 kilograms.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Daniel C. Lalchandama, Laltalnzova, and Malsawmengi, who are residents of Mizoram.

Cachar Police informed that further probe to unearth the forwards links and the entire nexus is underway.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the Cachar Police for the successful operation. In a post on X, the Assam CM wrote, “MASSIVE DRUG HAUL OF ₹105CR 😱

In two separate operations carried out by the Cachar Police, 1.8kg of heroin valued at ₹9.5 crore was seized at Dholai and Lakhipur respectively.

On May 2, two drug peddlers were arrested and narcotics worth Rs 3 crore was seized.

In Assam’s biggest-ever drug haul, over 20 kg of heroin worth a staggering ₹ 210 crore was recovered from a vehicle that had entered the state from Mizoram on April 4.
