Assam Govt to Upgrade Rural Connectivity With An Investment of Rs 4,700 Cr: CM Sarma

This project focuses on upgrading and rehabilitating existing RCC bridges and converting timber bridges into durable RCC structures.

In a significant move to improve rural infrastructure, the Assam government will enhance connectivity in rural areas with an investment of Rs 4,700 crore, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

This ambitious project focuses on upgrading and rehabilitating existing RCC bridges, converting timber bridges into durable RCC structures, and constructing new RCC bridges under the Assam Resilient Rural Bridges Programme to close connectivity gaps.

The plan also aims to enhance planning, execution, and management capacities for rural bridge infrastructure, ensuring that rural communities are better connected to essential services and markets.

Taking to X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “We have undertaken a major exercise to transform connectivity in rural areas by building RCC bridges under the Assam Resilient Rural Bridges Programme. This ₹4,700cr plan will enhance connectivity in rural areas, boost productivity and make access to welfare services easier.”
