In a significant political development, former Deputy Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and former Vice President of Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Kampa Borgoyari today joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) ahead of the upcoming BTC elections.
He joined the party at a grand joining ceremony held at Taikajhora, Chirang. Kampa Borgoyari was accompanied by hundreds of his supporters, marking a major shift in the political landscape of the region.
The event witnessed a huge turnout, with leaders from various political backgrounds showing their support. Among the prominent attendees were the Chief of BTR, Pramod Boro, and Deputy Chief Gabinda Basumatary. Former Assam cabinet minister Chandan Brahma and UPPL General Secretary Raju Narzary were also present.
Speaking at the 5th India-Japan Conclave in Guwahati, Borgoyari stressed the state’s focus on creating new opportunities for its youth, particularly in the healthcare sector.
Borgoyari’s shift to UPPL comes at a crucial time, with BTC elections on the horizon. His move is expected to reshape political equations in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and strengthen UPPL’s position against its rivals.
Yesterday speaking to Northeast Live, Borgoyari, cited a lack of understanding and collective decision-making within BPF as the primary reason for his exit.
He expressed his frustration over the party’s internal dysfunction, which, according to him, made it difficult to implement policies in the best interests of the people.
