Monsoon fury continues across Assam. Six more deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll has gone up to 52 since May, Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s (ASDMA) latest report on the flood situation in the state said.

Of the six deaths, 4 persons lost their lives in Golaghat district, while one person each died in Dibrugarh and Charaideo districts on Thursday.

As per the latest report, a total of 21,13,204 people in 29 districts out of 35 have been affected by the flood. About 40,000 people are taking shelter in relief camps after their houses were either inundated or destroyed by floods.

The worst-hit districts are Dhubri, where 6,48,806 people are affected; Darrang, 1,90,261; Cachar, 1,45,926; Barpeta, 1,31,041; and Golaghat, 1,08,594 people.

Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra, Digaru, and Kollong rivers are flowing above the danger mark at several points exacerbating the flood situation in the region and posing significant risks.

A total of 11,20,165 animals are also affected by the deluge in the state, said the ASDMA report.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in Dibrugarh today to take stock of the flood situation in the district. He will be visiting flood-affected areas at Khowang and Tengakhat as well.

Yesterday, CM Sarma chaired an important meeting with District Commissioners of all the districts and took stock of the status in their respective districts.

He also said that the government would compensate the affected people by August 15.
