The carcass of the rhino was spotted near Haduk Hanging Bridge inside the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

A female rhino was found dead inside Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam’s Morigaon, about 50 km from Guwahati, on Tuesday morning.

As per a preliminary investigation by the forest department the rhino is suspected to have died due to drowning.

The carcass of the rhino was spotted near Haduk Hanging Bridge inside the Sanctuary.

Following the incident, the forest department officials reached the spot and recovered the carcass.

Owing to rise in water level of the Brahmaputra River, 70 percent of the wildlife sanctuary was submerged in floodwater.

However, on Monday, the flood situation in Assam improved considerably even though nearly 80,000 people and over 75000 animals are still reeling under the deluge across eight districts.

The eight worst flood affected districts are Darrang, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon and Nagaon.
