Assam DGP G P Singh Appointed Director General of CRPF

He will now take over as DG CRPF from Special DG of the CRPF, Vitul Kumar, who is currently officiating as DG-CRPF

Director General Of Police, Assam, Gyanendra Pratap Singh has been appointed as the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

On Saturday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the proposal of the Union Home Ministry to appoint GP Singh as DG CRPF. Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre will be the DG CRPF till November 30, 2027, or until further orders.

Singh was appointed as DGP of Assam on January 31, 2023.

He will now take over as DG CRPF from Special DG of the CRPF, Vitul Kumar, who is currently officiating as DG-CRPF.

GP Singh is known for his reputation as a tough cop and has previously served with the Special Protection Group (SPG).

In 2013, he was deputed to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), where he held the position of Inspector General.

Though his tenure at the NIA was set to end in November 2020, he was abruptly recalled to Assam in December 2019, taking on the role of ADGP (Law and Order) to handle the widespread protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

As Special DGP (Law and Order), GP Singh also held the position of Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam.

Additionally, in 2021, he led the Rhino Protection Task Force, established by the state government to safeguard Assam’s wildlife.
