Elections for 2 Rajya Sabha seats from Assam will be held on March 31. Polls will be conducted as terms of 2 Congress MPs- Ranee Narah and Ripun Bora will be over on April 2. Counting of votes will be held on March 31 itself. The last date of filing nominations is March 21, while the last date of withdrawing nominations is March 24.

Meanwhile, Assam Congress president Bhupen Bora is hoping for fielding a common candidate by joining hands with the AIUDF. It is likely that Congress will back the AIUDF candidate. A formal meeting to decide on this will be held on March 8 where Assam Congress president Bhupen Bora and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal will deliberate on the matter.

Assam cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika said that the calculations of the Opposition will make no impact. Hazarika exuded confidence and said that the BJP will win both seats.
