Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is a man on a mission. Ever since assuming charge, CM Sarma has been relentlessly working to achieve a permanent peace solution for the state. While success has been achieved with regards to various such militant outfits in the recent past, the ULFA-Independent remains still remain elusive to coming to the table for talks.
Yesterday Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma once again reached out to the ULFA-Independent and other active rebel groups to join the mainstream. During his speech yesterday in the ongoing assembly session, Chief Minister Sarma said that such a move by the proscribed groups will ensure development and a violence free Assam for the future generation.
Well it needs to be mentioned that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s appeal comes a day after the Centre decided to reduce the ambit of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from 23 districts and 1 sub-division.
Meanwhile, the appeal for peace by the Assam Chief Minister has been welcomed by one and all. Among them is ULFA-Independent commander-in-chief Paresh Barua’s brother Bimal Baruah who welcomed the gesture by CM Sarma and said that it has the potential to sow the seeds of long lasting peace in Assam.
