Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday took stock of the progress of the Batadrava Than development and beautification project at Bordowa in Nagaon district.
Paying a visit to the Batadrawa Satra, the minister paid obeisance at the Satra upon his arrival.
Batadrawa is a key pilgrimage centre for the neo vaishnavites of Assam as Srimanta Sankardev was born in a place called Alipukhuri. The Satra here had fallen into disrepair for many years which the Assam government.
The new renovation project has been started today with a budget of Rs 22 crores and is expected to be completed in the next couple of years.
As part of the project, the old offices and quarters of the Batadrawa Satra would be renovated and reconstructed as part of it.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma also addressed the staff and monks of the Satra, where he talked about the new project that was launched today.
“We have started the second phase of the Batadrawa Than development and beautification project. In this, the four offices of the Batadrawa than will we renovated completely,” he said.
The minister further added, “For this project the state government has allocated a budget of Rs 22 crore from the total of Rs 155 crore.”
Earlier on 2020, the Batadrava Than was inaugurated by the then chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. A fund of Rs 155 crore was sanctioned for the ambitious project to develop the Than, which is the birth place of Srimanta Sankardeva.
