Assam CM pitches for nationalist media at NBF conclave

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma today pushed for a nationalist media while speaking at the NBF News Media conclave in Delhi.
Sarma said that the media should stand for the nation’s interests. Also, there is no room for neutrality when it comes to the national interest.
Speaking on the CAA issue, the Assam CM said that India has a historical responsibility towards persecuted Hindus.
Moreover, responding to a query on whether the people in Assam are backing his government’s “madrassa modernization” move, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that while 700 Madrassas have been closed down in Assam, the people of the state including those from the Muslim community have stood firmly behind his government.
CM Sarma also informed that as many as 40 PFI members have also been arrested in Assam.
Meanwhile, the first edition of the NBF focused on the theme ‘Future of News’ and examine the opportunity and challenges associated with the present media landscape.
Pride East Chief Managing Director, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma was also present at the event as a key panelist and raised the issues of challenges being faced by news broadcasters, especially in terms of logistics.
