Once completed the project will improve connectivity to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport for Sualkuchi residents.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation stone for the highly anticipated Sualkuchi-Palasbari Bridge, a 12.21-kilometer, four-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra River.

The bhumi pujan (groundbreaking) ceremony was held in Sualkuchi, where CM Himanta Biswa Sarma performed the ceremonial laying of cement on the first construction block, marking the start of this transformative project.

The bridge will connect Palasbari on National Highway 17 (southern bank) to Sualkuchi on the Bongshar-Sualkuchi Road (northern bank). It incorporates modern infrastructure, including approach viaducts and wetland viaducts, to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

Key benefits of the project include unlocking urbanization potential in Palasbari and Sualkuchi, improving connectivity to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport for Sualkuchi residents, and providing faster access to schools and healthcare services on both sides of the river.

Additionally, the project will help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in western Guwahati, offering significant environmental benefits.

Speaking at the event, CM Sarma said, “Marking another milestone in our infrastructural journey, the 12.2km long Palasbari-Sualkuchi Bridge will bridge the gap between the two important places and boost connectivity in the State.”

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the newly constructed office building of the Sualkuchi Mandal in North Kamrup district.

Speaking to the media, CM Sarma emphasized the importance of the new office, stating “This office will strengthen the party’s presence in the region, help us connect better with the people, and foster unity among workers.”
