A class eight student of a private school in Assam’s Goalpara district was found hanging inside his hostel room today, days after returning from home after a vacation. A fellow hosteller saw the boy hanging and alerted the hostel authorities. He was still alive when they found them but could not save him.
The deceased student has been identified as, 13 year old Nilotjyoti Barman, who hails from Kokrajhar.
The incident has been reported from Mahatma Gandhi Senior Secondary School located at Bhalukdubi area of Goalpara.
The incident come to light after one of the hosteller noticed Nilotjyoti Barman hanging from the ceiling fan of his room at around 7.30 AM today and informed the hostel authority about it.
Later, they called the police and brought down Nilotjyoti Barman by cutting the rope while he was still alive. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, however, he died before reaching hospital.
Nilotjyoti Barman was staying in the hostel as a hosteler for about two years after enrolling in class 7 in the school.
Talking to media, a school authority said, “Since he returned to the hostel two days back after coming from home, we did not notice any unusual behaviour. He probably did not want to stay in the hostel.”
The cause of his death will be determined after the post-mortem examination.
