The shameful scene was witnessed within hours of the inauguration of the flyover by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
It was a clear display of civic sense gone for a toss, as ‘mindless’ people stained the Nilachal Flyover in Guwahati with paan and tobacco spits, within hours of the Flyover being inaugurated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma yesterday evening.
Last night a huge crowd was witnessed on the flyover as people turned up in large numbers after the inauguration of the 2.6km long, 4-lane flyover from Kamakhya Temple gate to Maligaon Chariali, the longest flyover of the state.
The crowd hanged around till past midnight to enjoy the illuminated decorations on the Flyover.
However, as dawn broke, a shocking scenario came to light. The flyover was found to be full of dirt and filth at several spots.
Several spots were marked with paan stains and spit stains by tobacco consumers.
Paan and tobacco stains spoiled the beauty of the freshly painted, just inaugurated flyover. The artisans’ pain stakingly created beautiful paintings and frescos spoilt, dirtied.
Shocking to say the least, empty liquor bottles were also found at one corner of the flyover that has raised questions as to what kind of celebrations may have taken place after the inauguration of the flyover last evening.
A local resident informed that he saw some youths taking away flower pots which was placed to beautify the flyover.
Worth mentioning that, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had urged people not to litter the bridge and help the government to keep it clean.
The 4-lane steel girder flyover has been constructed at a cost of Rs 420.75 crore. Murals of wildlife, including animals and birds, places of interest, traditional motifs, and textile designs adorns the flyover.
