To improve administrative efficiency, the Assam government has decided to restore the district status of Hojai, Biswanath, Tamulpur, and Bajali, besides announcing 81 sub-districts in Assam, in its 100th cabinet meeting today.
As part of the move, the four districts of the state—Hojai, Biswanath, Tamulpur, and Bajali—have been reconstituted with their boundaries freshly demarcated. These districts were earlier merged with their parent districts owing to the delimitation exercise.
The cabinet also decided to abolish all sub-divisions and instead create 81 sub-districts, which will be headed by Assistant Deputy Commissioners (ADCs).
As part of the move, Guwahati will also have four sub-districts in Dispur.
Briefing the media post the marathon 100th cabinet meet, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inoformed that as many as 1238 cabinet decisions were taken by his government, of which 1217, or almost 98%, have been fully or partially implemented.

CM Sarma informed that the new sub-districts will be operational from January 1, 2024, and the notification will be issued within the next few days.
