Five bodies have been recovered, and one person is still missing after a boat capsized in the Goalpara district of Assam on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Sujan Malakar (34), Jit Karmakar (17) and Prasenjit Saha (age yet to be ascertained), and Gouranga Malakar (47), and Uday Sarkar (50).
While three bodies were recovered last evening, the remaining bodies were recovered this morning by SDRF officials, who had carried out the search and rescue operations since last evening.
The incident took place in the Simlitola Narayanpara area of the Goalpara district when a country boat carrying 20 villagers capsized.
As per reports, the villagers were returning from a cremation.
SDRF officials informed the media that floodwaters have not inundated the crematorium, which is approximately 250 meters away from human settlements.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is on his way to the accident site to take stock of the situation there.
