Shubhalakshmi has been absconding since August 26, after a complaint was registered against her by her domestic help on August 27
Shubhalaskhmi Dutta, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Charaideo district of Assam who has been accused of physically assaulting and torturing her domestic help in eastern Assam’s Nazira, has finally surrendered before the Sivasagar SP on Saturday morning.
Shubhalakshmi has been absconding since August 26, after a complaint was registered against her by her domestic help on August 27 at the Nazira police station in Sivasagar district. Following which, Subhalakshmi was immediately suspended from her post.
A massive manhunt was launched by the Assam Police to trace the absconding police official.
In the FIR, the victim’s domestic help has alleged that Dutta used to pour hot water, and rub chili on her head on several occasions, and also threatened her.
The victim stated that she somehow escaped through the bathroom of the house, where she was allegedly kept confined by Dutta.
Shubhalaskhmi Dutta was placed under suspension in the interest of a fair investigation into the matter.
Reports said that Dutta had earlier physically assaulted home guard personnel and an armed branch constable in 2019 in Sivasagar district.
Both the assault cases were registered at Sivasagar Police Station.
Yesterday, Special Director General of Police of Assam, Harmeet Singh, asked Shubhalakshmi to surrender and warned that if she did not do so, she would be declared a fugitive and her property would be confiscated.
Following which she surrended today.
CID is currently investigating the matter and has sought a report of the case from the Sivasagar Superintendent of Police.
