Assam: Electricity Bills to Drop as Per Unit Cost to Get Cheaper by Rs 1 from Today for Households, 25 P Per Unit Relief for Businesses

No, this is not an April Fool’s prank. Starting today, electricity bill for households of Assam will get cheaper as the per unit cost gets slashed by a rupee.

Commercial establishments will see a 25 paisa reduction in their electricity bills.

Taking to X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “It’s April – temperatures will increase but your bijli bill will decrease Beginning today, families in Assam will see a drop of ₹1 per unit in electricity bills along with a rebate at the end of the year. PS : This isn’t an April Fool Prank.”

The current electricity rate stands at Rs 5.90 per unit. The new rates will be Rs 4.90 per unit for households, and Rs 5.65 per unit for commercial establishments.

This initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on both residential and industrial consumers across the state.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a Facebook Live on Monday said that consumers will see reduced electricity bills in May, as the Rs 1 per unit reduction takes effect starting today.

Additionally, the Chief Minister has assured an extra rebate at the end of the year to further reduce the overall annual electricity payment.
“I will also try if we can reduce 50 more paisa by the end of the year to help the poor,” said CM Sarma.
