CM Sarma said that certain individuals enjoy every privilege India offers, like salary, power and position and yet their loyalty lies across the border

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma today referred to a 2022 tweet by Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and said that his loyalty lies across the border with Pakistan.

The Chief Minister said that certain individuals enjoy every privilege India offers, like salary, power and position and yet their loyalty lies across the border.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that these people draw everything from Bharat but work only for Pakistan’s interest, which is nothing but betrayal.

The Assam CM was referring to a tweet by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi in August 2022 where he had said that while celebrating the victory of the Indian Cricket team over Pakistan, we must not forget the humanitarian crisis due to unprecedented flooding in Pakistan.

Gaurav Gogoi in the tweet had stated that the flood in the neighbouring country has taken 1000 lives and that the Pakistani people need urgent relief and support.

While the post by Gogoi was initially highlighted by Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika, CM Sarma reacted to it, continuing his attack on Gogoi.

It may be mentioned that the Congress MP has been on the receiving end of late over his alleged Pakistan links.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has been stating that Gogoi, the Congress MP from Jorhat, made a 15-day visit to Pakistan and that the trip had deeper, troubling implications.

The Chief Minister also questioned whether Gogoi’s wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, continues to receive a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO while residing and working in India, and pressed for clarity on the citizenship status of Gogoi’s wife and two children.

CM Sarma has repeatedly stated that he will present all evidence publicly on September 10, in a detailed press briefing. CM Sarma even offered to resign if Gogoi could prove he had never visited Pakistan.

Reacting to the allegations, Gaurav Gogoi had earlier challenged CM Sarma to provide proof, asking, if CM Himanta Biswa Sarma fails to prove these claims, will he resign from his post as Chief Minister?

On Sunday, in a sensational revelation, said that Gaurav Gogoi had visited Pakistan at the invitation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The Chief Minister said, “I want to clarify 3 things to the people of Assam today that Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on ISI’s invitation. He had definitely visited Pakistan to receive training, or else why would ISI call him? He went there on an invitation from the country’s Home Ministry, not the External Affairs, Cultural Ministry; he went there at the invitation of the Pakistan Home Department. How dangerous it is. It is a very serious matter.”
