In a significant development, Assam and Mizoram today held the first round of talks to resolve the inter-state border issue.

During the deliberations, representatives of both governments agreed to hold further talks to find an amicable and lasting solution to the vexed issue between both the states.

Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana said following receipt of suggestions from the Assam government, both sides will work on the modalities of talks. Meanwhile, both sides have agreed to maintain status quo along the disputed border areas.

The Mizoram government delegation was led by Mizoram Home minister Lalchamliana while Assam government was represented by Border Areas Development minister Atul Bora.

The 50-year-old interstate border disputes had even resulted in violent clashes in the border areas last year leading to the death of Assam police personnel.
