Assam: 6 hunters arrested for hunting down monkeys in Hailakandi

A group of 6 hunters have been arrested in the Hailakandi area of Assam for allegedly hunting down monkeys today. The hunters have been accused of secretly killing the monkeys and sending their carcasses to Mizoram.

3 hand-made rifles, 1 air gun and 10 dead monkeys were found in the possession of the accused. The hunters have been identified as residents of Mizoram.

Monkey smuggling has been a constant menace in Assam and police seized 9 rare species of monkeys from the Assam-Mizoram border in April this year.
