In a tragic incident, a 3-year-old boy was electrocuted in Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.
The boy, identified as Joyvin Engleng, was playing football and was unaware of the transformer kept on the ground.
The minor boy has received burn injuries on both his hands and legs.
Following the incident, the boy was rushed to Umrangso Rural Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Haflong, and after that, he was admitted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
However, the family returned to Umrangso after doctors told the parents that Joyvin’s hand would have to be amputated.
The transformer which was installed two years ago was left on the ground by APDCL employees without any proper fencing or maintenance.
The father of the victim child has now approached the sub-divisional officer (SDO), Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), Umrangso, for compensation but he is yet to get a response.
The locals have now raised questions over APDCL’s negligence.
