Two tragic deaths in a span of 3 days at the Sukanjuli firing range in Assam’s Tamulpur district has raised serious concern.
As per inputs, a person identified as Lakhiram Soren lost his life today in a mortar explosion while trying to collect scraps of ammunition being fired during army training exercises.
Another person identified as Jira Hazda was also severely injured in the blast and is undergoing treatment. Inputs suggest that the incident took place when the routine armed training exercise of the army was underway.
A similar incident was reported last Wednesday evening when another person was killed in an explosion caused by a mortar after he walked into the firing range.
The deceased identified as Khempo Narzary, had entered the firing range reportedly to collect the remnants of explosives. He died after he attempted to break an 81-mortar bomb, reports stated.
According to the police, villagers living near the forest area often wander around the army-prohibited areas to collect the remains of explosives.
