AMCH Ragging incident: 2 medical students suspended

The Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh has suspended two Post Graduate (PG) students for after they were found guilty of “harassing junior Postgraduate students both physically and mentally.”
This comes in the backdrop of another horrific ragging incident being reported from the Dibrugarh University where a M. Com first semester student is battling for his life in ICU.
The two PG students, Dr. Sayan Mukherjee and Dr. Saket Saraf have been “suspended from attending classes and academic privileges for six months. They have also been suspended/expelled from the hostel with immediate effect, the AMCH said in its order.
“On the basis of the report of the Anti-Ragging Committee, the following Postgraduate students of the department of Orthopedics, Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh were found guilty of harassing junior Postgraduate students both physically and mentally, which is a gross misconduct. Hence, on the recommendation of the Anti-Ragging Committee, the following disciplinary actions are imposed upon the guilty PG students of department of Orthopaedics.

  1. Dr. Sayan Mukherjee (2021-22)
  2. Dr. Saket Saraf (2021-22)
    Disciplinary Actions:
  3. Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges for six months.
  4. Suspension/Expulsion from the hostel immediately,” the AMCH’s order said.

The two PG students have been suspended in connection with the ragging incident that took place in AMCH on November 19.
Majisd Hussain, brother of victim Sajid Hussain has thanked the AMCH authorities for the “just and timely action”.
