Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will embark on a visit to South Korea and Japan on January 18 to hold roadshows as part of his government’s efforts to draw investors for participating in the Advantage Assam 2.0 from February 24-25, which is slated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sarma, who conducted the first roadshow for Advantage Assam 2.0 in Bhutan last month, will also visit Singapore in the coming days to woo investors.

Chief Minister Sarma is slated to meet business leaders, investors, and even government representatives in South Korea, Japan, and Singapore during his visit.

Earlier, CM Sarma also met ambassadors of as many as 36 countries in New Delhi in three different batches and highlighted Assam’s emerging potential as an investment hub and an industrial powerhouse.

And it’s not just CM Sarma, but cabinet ministers from Assam are also holding roadshows to draw investors to Advantage Assam 2.0.

For the first time, Assam Ministers are visiting key international locations like Dubai, London, and Thailand to attract global investors in sectors such as infrastructure, electronics, aerospace, renewable energy, tourism, and more.

Two Ministers from Assam, Bimal Bora and Keshab Mahanta, were on a whirlwind tour of several nations to woo investors in the state ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0.

A high-level delegation from Assam, led by Assam Industry and Commerce and Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, reached UAE on January 14 for a four-day visit to showcase the state’s investment potential ahead of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati.

Assam government is actively seeking UAE private sector investment, particularly in infrastructure projects, that promise to transform Assam’s economic landscape while offering profitable opportunities for investors.

Minister Borah highlighted Assam’s natural advantages, including seven national parks, three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and its position as a major contributor to India’s energy resources, accounting for 50% of onshore natural gas production. The state is also known for producing 97% of India’s agar wood, a crucial ingredient in premium fragrances.

The state’s ambitious vision was further detailed by Special Secretary Syedain Abbasi, who revealed that Assam’s current GDP of $69 billion is targeted to double by 2030, building on a consistent growth rate of 12.6% over the past decade.

Abbasi stated that infrastructure development is progressing at an unprecedented pace, with significant projects worth $12 billion currently underway, including four new bridges across the Brahmaputra River.

The delegation also conducted field visits to major UAE-based business hubs, including DP World, Bharat Mart, Transworld, and Meydan Free Zone. The state is particularly focusing on sectors such as renewable energy, with plans for a 1,000 MW solar park supported by the Asian Development Bank, and expanding its healthcare network with 20 medical colleges.
