The Guwahati Police have arrested three students from Cotton University for allegedly attacking a BJP Leader near the Guwahati railway station on Friday night.
The three students, who are reportedly hostel boarders, allegedly knocked down Bijoy Pathak with their two-wheeler. The students were from the MNDP hostel of Cotton University.
Pathak, who is the General Secretary of the Guwahati BJP District Committee, was beaten up with tea kettles, chairs, and rods.
According to sources, Bijoy Pathak was having tea at the railway station when three drunk students came riding a bike and hit him with the bike. Bijoy Pathak asked the students why they hit him with their bikes, and they attacked him.
This soon led to an altercation, following which one of the three students alerted other hostel boarders, who beat up the BJP worker, leaving him severely injured.
While three of them were initially detained by the Pan Bazar police, three of them have now been arrested.
The BJP leader sustained serious injuries and received several stitches on his head.
