25 Instances of Crime Against Women in 4 Months: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Sharing the number of incidents in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has promised strictest of action against all those involved

Assam has recorded at least 25 cases of crime against women in the last 4 months. Shocking and horrific but true. Sharing this number today after the horrendous gang-rape of a 14-year old girl, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has promised strictest of punishment against all those involved in such acts.

Here are some of the incidents with the timeline:

August 19, 2024–Assam University student sexually assaulted in Silchar
August 19, 2024–Attempted rape of a teenager in Burai Ghat, Behali
August 14, 2024– Girl kidnapped from Azara near Guwahati
July 28, 2024 — Teenager sexually assaulted in Hidalbari, Hajo
July 20, 2024 — Teenager kidnapped in Ramhari
July 6, 2024 — Attempted rape of tribal girl in Rangapara, Sonitpur
Attempted sexual assault of 70-year-old woman in Matia, Goalpara
July 1, 2024 — Woman sexually assaulted in Thelamara, Dhekiajuli
June 27, 2024– Teenager sexually assaulted in Thelamara, Sonitpur
June 27, 2024 — Attempted rape of teenager in Baihata
June 22, 2024 – Another teenager gang-raped in Majbat
June 22, 2024 — Tribal girl sexually assaulted in Dhekiajuli
May 3, 2024 — Teenager gang-raped in Kokrajhar
