Cachar police have taken the war against criminal activities on a war footing in Silchar.
Cachar Police teams conducted over 20 successful raids in a single day and apprehended as many as 18 people involved in various illegal activities.
A series of raids were carried out in Silchar on Sunday, wherein police busted gangs involved in betel nut smuggling, fertilizer smuggling, coal trade, and sealed over a dozen warehouses.
The police also apprehended a dacoit and a HPC (P) militant cadre during the raids.

Superintendent of Police Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur informed that a few days ago police arrested Tazuddin Ahmed, a well-known dacoit in the area. Based on the information received from Tazuddin, the police arrested Hussain Ahmed Laskar. A .32 mm pistol was also recovered from him.
Hussain Ahmed Laskar, on the other hand, attempted to escape police custody, prompting police to open fire. Laskar sustained serious bullet injuries in the process. He is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Police also raided the residence of Rauf Ahmed, nephew of former Deputy speaker AminulHaqueLaskar and arrested Rauf’s mother and a relative.
As per police, Rauf Ahmed was involved in Urea fertilizer smuggling.
Cachar Police team also raided the residence of Burmese betelnut Kingpin Altaf Hussain and Zakir alias Potol.
