In a joint operation, the Assam police and security forces apprehended two juvenile cadres of the NSCN-IM from New Tinsukia Railway station in the state.
Following interrogation of the duo, security forces had also recovered arms and ammunition from a hideout at Namtok area in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh this morning.
The arms and ammunition recovered during the operation are 2 HK series rifles, 2 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), 283 rounds of live ammunition, 3 mobile phones, 3 ATM Cards and a store of other camp materials.
The two arrested cadres are 16 and 13 years of age respectively and were on their way to Dimpaur as per the police. Deputy Inspector General of Police-Northeast Range, Jitmol Doley who oversaw the operations said that the juvenile cadres of the outfit were involved in extortion activities, particularly in Jagun area of Tinsukia and had even resorted to blank firing on Wednesday night to threaten a Hindi speaking businessman.
The cadres were trying to go to Dimapur after hiding their weapons, the DIG said.
These arrests have raised some serious questions regarding the activities of NSCN-IM in Assam and its using juveniles cadres to carry out its activities.
