Assam lad Hriday Hazarika wins silver at ISSF World Cup; Assam CM congratulates

This is also the first individual senior World Cup medal for Hriday Hazarika.

Former Junior world champion and Assam lad Hriday Hazarika has added another feather to his cap.

The promising shooter shot 251.9 in the final of the men’s 10m air rifle event to clinch the silver medal at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan. This is also the first individual senior World Cup medal for Hriday Hazarika.

Meanwhile, Nancy from Haryana too won her first individual senior World Cup medal, by winning the silver in the women’s 10m air rifle competitions. Nancy also won the silver medal in the women’s event with a score of 253.3.

Hriday had managed to scrape through the qualification round with 630.3 points and a ninth-place finish (effectively seventh because Divyansh Singh Panwar and Arjun Babuta had competed for RPO). However, in the final, he upped his game to finish only below Hungary’s Zalan Pekler (252.4). China’s Sheng Lihao won bronze with a score of 230.5.

Nancy had a similar showing in the qualification round – eighth with 631.6 points.. Han Jiayu (254.0) and Huang Yuting (232.5) of China won the gold and bronze, respectively.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and congratulated both the athletes. In the Tweet, Chief Minister Sarma said,”Congratulations to young stars Hriday Hazarika and Nancy on bagging silver medals in 10m air rifle at the ISSF World Cup at Baku, Azerbaijan.
