‘Super cop’ Robin Hibu promoted as DGP, first IPS officer from Arunachal to be elevated as top cop

IPS officer Robin Hibu, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, has been promoted to the rank of DGP. With this Hibu has become the first officer from the frontier state to be elevated to the rank of a DGP.

Hibu is presently serving as the Special Commissioner and ADGP, Delhi Police.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said that Robin Hibu, a 1993 batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) IPS officer has been promoted to the DGP Grade with effect from the date of assumption of charge.

Well known for his selfless dedicated service for the well-being of the citizens, Hibu has been the talk of the eight North Eastern States for his acts of humanity. People in and around Delhi call him the ‘Super Cop’.

He has been at the forefront of several humanitarian initiatives, prominent ones being helping youngsters from the northeast in Delhi-NCR during Covid times and whenever any young girl has been in distress.

Awarded with the President’s Medal twice in 2017 and 2010 for his distinguished service, Hibu so far has served in several key capacities.

Hibu has also served in the United Nation’s peace missions in Kosovo and Bosnia. He was recognized for his service with the UN Peace Medal for Outstanding Services in Bosnia and Kosovo in 1998 and 1999 respectively.

So far Robin Hibu has served as Superintendent of Police in 4 districts of Arunachal Pradesh, as IGP Arunachal Pradesh Police, Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police, Nodal Officer for North East People, Delhi Police, Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police and Chairman, Recruitment Board of the Delhi Police.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister elect Pema Khandu congratulated and conveyed his greetings to Hibu on being promoted as DGP. In a post on social media and wrote, “Shri Robin Hibu, IPS, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, has several achievements up his sleeve.
And now his promotion as DGP, the first officer from the state to achieve this rank, comes as heartening news.

Chowna Mein too congratulated Robin Hibu and posted on social media sharing his thoughts.

He wrote, “Congratulations to Shri Robin Hibu on being promoted to the Director General of Police (DGP). He is the first Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Arunachal Pradesh to be promoted to DGP. His dedication, commitment, and exemplary service stand as a testament to his devotion to public service and law enforcement.
