The Arunachal Police has arrested Nilim Mahanta, a popular graffiti artist from Assam, for his artwork as a mark of protest against the mega river dam water project. Mahanta was charged for his artwork where he wrote ‘No More Dams’ on a memorial wall. Mahanta made the graffiti in line with the celebrations of 50 years of formation of Arunachal Pradesh.
Consequently, a team of Arunachal Pradesh Police personnel picked up Mahanta from Lakhimpur last evening. A case has been filed against Mahanta at the Itanagar police station under non-bailable sections.
Worth mentioning here, Mahanta, who is a resident of Guwahati, was lauded for his artwork in the newly constructed flyovers in the city.
