Lone voter in Arunachal’s Malogam: Poll officials to trek for nearly 40-km to set up poll booth

Believe it or not, polling officials will be trekking for nearly 40 kilometers to reach near the China border and set up a polling booth for the lone voter in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote Malogam village.

44- year old Sokela Tayang is the lone voter in Maolgam for whom the ECI is taking up all measures to make sure that she does not miss out from taking part in the biggest festival of democracy.

Reports said that for Tayang to cast her vote, a polling team, including officials, security personnel and porters, will embark on the arduous journey through inhospitable hilly terrain amid unpredictable weather from Hayuliang.

The village is in the Hayuliang assembly seat in the Arunachal East Lok Sabha constituency where the contest will be between Bosiram Siram of the Congress party and Tapir Gao of the BJP.

According to a Times of India report, of the total 2,226 polling stations in the state, 228 can be reached only by foot. Of these, 61 will require a two-day walk, while seven would need three-day trekking.

In the 2014 elections, the polling booth at Malogam had two voters Tayang and her husband Janelum Tayang, who, however, transferred his name to another booth in the constituency.
