Double Bailey bridge in Arunachal collapses; no casualties

The bridge collapsed under the weight of a boulder-laden dumper truck with three people on board which was passing through the ‘weak’ bridge.

Surface communication along the Mebo-Dhola road, in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district has been disrupted, after a double Bailey bridge over the Ngopok Korong River, collapsed on Wednesday between the Kiyit and Borguli village.

The bridge collapsed under the weight of a boulder-laden dumper truck with three people on board which was passing through the ‘weak’ bridge.

Fortunately, all three people including the driver escaped with minor injuries from the incident.

Meanwhile officials of the Public Works Department informed that a diversion has been made near the river for traffic movement.

Moreover, Local MLA of 39th Mebo, Lombo Tayeng has also personally instructed the department to complete the alternative diversion bridge.

The AE further informed that a bamboo bridge will be constructed at the location for light vehicles. Also the department will be sending a proposal for immediate restoration of the Bailey bridge.

It needs to be mentioned here that, the truck which met with the accident was transporting boulders for flood control at Borguli villag

 and Tatsing Bridge at Bakkul.
