The Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet, is likely to visit Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang region, CM Pema Khandu announced on Thursday. This will be the Dalai Lama’s 8th visit to the state.

Today, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu chaired a review meeting to review the preparations at Tawang for the visit of the 14th Dalai Lama.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), CM Khandu said, “In view of the upcoming proposed visit of His Holiness to the district, chaired a meeting to review the preparations today at Tawang.”

The meeting was attended by MLAs- Tsering Tashi, Tsering Lhamu including DoKAA Chairperson Jambey Wangdi, representatives of Monpa Mimang Tsokpa, and other officials.

“Inspected the ongoing construction of the Dalai Lama Phodrang residence at Pungteng, Tawang. This is the blessed place where His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama spent a few days after arriving from Tibet in 1959”, Khandu added.

Dalai Lama has visited Tawang seven times since 1983. In April in 2017 Dalai Lama was on a 12-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. His visit was opposed by China.

On Wednesday, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang informed that the Tibetan spiritual leader will pay a five-visit to Sikkim from October 10-14. CM convened a meeting with senior officials at Mintokgang to review preparations for the visit of the 14th Dalai Lama to the state.
