As surprising as it may sound, China has opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh which it claims as part of South Tibet and urged India to refrain from taking any action that may “complicate” the boundary question.

Reacting sharply to Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said China would lodge a “stern” diplomatic protest with India.

‘China’s position on the China-India boundary question is consistent and clear-cut. The Chinese government has never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader’s visit to the disputed area,’ said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang in response to reports that Modi visited Arunachal Pradesh.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Itanagar yesterday to inaugurate the state civil secretariat.

China has time and again opposed the visits of Indian and foreign leaders to Arunachal Pradesh and has reiterated its claim over the state.
