Dasanglu Pul was elected for the first time as an MLA to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election in 2016 from Hayuliang.

Dasanglu Pul has become the first woman to be inducted as Minister in Pema Khandu Cabinet. Pema Khandu has been the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh twice earlier but this is the first time that his Cabinet has a lady as a Minister.

Pul is the second woman Cabinet Minister of Arunchal Pradesh. Komli Mossang was the first woman minister of the state.

Pul, wife of Kalikho Pul, former Chief Minister Arunachal Pradesh, was administered oath of office by Governor Lt General KT Parnaik today.

In this election, Pul was elected unopposed from the Hayuliang assembly constituency.

Dasanglu Pul’s Lok Jan Shakti Party opponent Thakjelium Tindya withdrew his nomination while Congress’ Bafutso Krong too withdrew his nomination paving way for Pul’s victory uncontested.

Who is Dasanglu Pul?

Dasanglu Pul was elected for the first time as an MLA to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election in 2016 from Hayuliang.

She is wife of Kalikho Pul, former Chief Minister Arunachal Pradesh for a brief time in 2016. On 26 April 2023, Guwahati High Court declared her election win in 2019 Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly election as null and void due to concealment of information on her election affidavit.

Worth mentioning, the Gauhati High Court had delivered the verdict invalidating Pul’s election on a petition filed by her opponent, Lupalam Kri.

Kri alleged that she had not disclosed the properties of her late husband on the election nomination form. The high court passed the order on the ground that Pul’s nomination papers were not in accordance with Section 33 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and that the same was liable to be rejected.

However, in 2023, the Supreme Court set aside the Gauhati High Court’s judgement and upheld the 2019 election of BJP MLA Dasanglu Pul to the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly. A bench comprising Justices A.S. Bopanna and P.S. Narasimha had heard the petition.
