Arunachal Pradesh: AAPSU polls to resume on May 25th
The outgoing Executive Members of AAPSU who were present in the meeting today shall be allowed to cast their votes on May 25.
Following the postponement of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) elections on the night of May 23, it has been decided that they will resume on May 25, 2022.
Moreover, the outgoing Executive Members of AAPSU who were present in the meeting today shall be allowed to cast their votes on May 25.
The meeting was held in this regard on Tuesday at Siddhartha Hall in Itanagar where these decisions were taken.
It was presided over by Deputy Commissioner and attended by Chief election Commissioner (AAPSU), President, General Secretary and contesting candidates.
Earlier on May 18, the election process for AAPSU was postponed after the delegates of a candidate stage a protest.
After the polling started, delegates of a candidate Puman Wangsu, who is contesting for the post of co-convenor from the Tirap-Changlang-Longding region.
The protestors held the demonstration in front of the Gompa Gate in Itanagar protesting against the 26th General Conference cum Election Commissioner of AAPSU for rejecting Wangsu’s nomination papers and disqualifying him for being a former NSUI member.
As per reports, Rajesh Apang, a candidate running for the post of Chief Editor was attacked by another candidate Gora Paku and his supporters a few days’ back
Even before this, incidents of violence were reported between supporters of two AAPSU presidential candidates.
The AAPSU is a Pan-Arunachal organisation, with members representing all tribes, regions, and religions. People in Arunachal have a strong emotional connection to it and look up to it.
Students, from school to university, make up the majority of voters in the AAPSU elections.
