Arunachal organises marathon on International Olympic Day
The marathon started from Chimpu Higher secondary school & culminated at Nyokum Lapang on the capital highway in Itanagar.
Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday observed the 74th International Olympic day in the state capital Itanagar where a 10 km marathon was organized by the Arunachal Olympic Association.
Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation Tame Phassang along with the Education Minister of Arunachal and President of Arunachal Olympic association Taba Tedir flagged off the marathon race for both male and female categories.
Meanwhile, the marathon started from Chimpu Higher secondary school & culminated at Nyokum Lapang on the capital highway in Itanagar.
The marathon was open to all categories and enthusiastic participation of the youths was witnessed. In fact, a few senior citizens were also seen participating in the marathon.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to Twitter and wrote: “On #InternationalOlympicDay, let us imbibe three guiding values of Olympics in our lives ~ Excellence, Respect, and Friendship. Let us promote health & harmony through sports. Together for a peaceful world!”
It is noteworthy to mention that June 23 is celebrated as International Olympic Day across the globe. The day is primarily celebrated to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games. The day is also observed to celebrate the health and harmony aspect associated with sports. The day marks the foundation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Moreover, the day is observed to motivate and encourage people to participate in the Olympic games and spread awareness about the various sporting events. It focuses on and highlights the three values of the Olympics – Excellence, Respect, and Friendship – and guides people to imbibe these values in their everyday lives.
Multiple activities are organised by the National and the International Olympic Committee to observe the day. Celebrated across 150 countries, the International Olympic Day witnesses the Olympic Day runs. Other sporting events and competitions are held in schools and other institutions to mark the event.
