Arunachal: Government urges Sol Dodum to call off protest, activist adamant

Activist Sol Dodum, who is holding a protest demanding a supply of clean drinking water in Seppa town, finally held a meeting with state Home Minister Bamang Felix on Saturday.

Activist Sol Dodum, who is holding a protest demanding a supply of clean drinking water in Seppa town, finally held a meeting with state Home Minister Bamang Felix on Saturday.

While Dodum held a nearly 2-hour-long meeting with Felix, the former said that he will continue with his protest for now.

The activist is now set to have another round of talks on Monday.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Bamang Felix while speaking to the media after the meeting said that he has appealed to Dodum to call off his protest.

Felix also reiterated that the Pema Khandu government has a zero-tolerance approach to corruption.

The State Government earlier had turned down activist Sol Dodum’s demand for an on-camera meet with Home Minister Bamang Felix, who had extended a talk invitation to Dodum.

Itanagar Capital Region Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom, who had extended the invitation to Dodum on behalf of the minister said that it was against the protocol of the Civil Secretariat to hold a meeting in presence of the media.

Earlier, Sol Dodum submitted an 8-point memorandum to state Home Minister Bamang Felix voicing his demands for clean drinking water, good roads, and other issues.

In the memorandum, Dodum has sought an immediate arrangement of purified and clean water, transfer of East Kameng DC, immediate posting of a PHE engineer, and constitution of a Special Investigation Team to investigate the case against PHE executive engineer Bharat Sonam and necessary action on him, among others.

It may be mentioned here that Dodum who walked on foot covering a distance of 225 Kms from Seppa to Itanagar to highlight his demand for clean drinking water and good roads back home, staged another protest at the Tennis Court in the state capital earlier on Tuesday.
