At least 70 children and 5 teachers are reportedly stranded in a school at Bijoypur under the Diyun circle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district. The school has been cut off from the rest of the region after flood waters have surrounded the school.
Inputs suggest that troopers of the 11 Assam Rifles, villagers, district administration as well as police personnel are engaged in daring operations to rescue the stranded children and teachers to safety.
However, the harsh weather conditions have hindered the rescue operations and at least 2 such attempts have failed so far.
IAF choppers have been alerted on the matter, but so far no progress could be achieved due to inclement weather.
Continuous rainfall over the past six days in Arunachal’s Changlang district has turned critical as rising flood waters continue to ravage several villages under Diyun circle.
Following the flood situation, the Assam Rifles launched ‘Operation Saviour’ along with specialized team of army engineers from Changlang and teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
At least 1200 people were rescued. As per inputs, more than 50,000 people have been affected.
