The situation turned tense in Arunachal’s Seppa town where hundreds of protesters took to the streets today to demand clean drinking water and good roads. During the rally, the protesters marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office with some of them forcing their way into the office complex as security personnel struggled to stop the crowd.
The protesters were seen chanting slogans as they barged into the DC’s office complex. The protest had began in the morning from the helipad ground and headed towards the DC office. As soon as the protestors reached the DC office at Seppa, the situation got tense as the crowd tried to enter the DC office premises forcefully even as the guards closed the gates. Eventually, some of them managed to force their way through.
Meanwhile, activist Sol Dodum, who had walked from Seppa to Itanagar to demand clean drinking water and good roads in Seppa, has turned down an invitation from minister Mama Natung for talks. Dodum said that any discussion should be held in the open and there is no room for talks in a minister’s personal chamber.
He also appealed to the protestors at Seppa to carry on the protests in a nonviolent manner.
Talking about the protest in Seppa, Dodum said people have finally come out and are demanding for the right to clean drinking water. This protest comes just a day after Chief Minister Pema Khandu stated that he has ordered a ground verification into the issue of drinking water in Seppa and also sought a report on it.
