APPSC paper leak case: CBI files chargesheet against prime accused Taket Jerang

In a big development pertaining to the probe into the APPSC paper leak case, the CBI has filed a filed a charge sheet against prime accused Taket Jerang and another accused Obur Jerang. The apex investigating agency has filed the chargesheet at the Yupia District Sessions Court.

As per reports, the court has directed Taket Jerang to provide speciment of his signature and handwriting to the court for examining the case and carry the probe forward.

Meanwhile, Iken Bagra, father of accused Kender Bagra and Kenjum Bagra (JE RWD) have been granted 20 days interim bail by the court on ground of his heart ailment. Both Kender and Kenjum, who were two serving junior engineers, were arrested on November 25 last year after they were both selected in the junior engineer examination conducted by the APPSC in 2021, which was marred by alleged anomalies.

Earlier on February 25, Jerang was granted bail by the Itanagar bench of the Gauhati High Court as the investigating agency CBI had failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated 90 days of filing the case.
Jerang, former APPSC deputy secretary and deputy controller of examination, is said to be the brain behind the racket. It is believed that the whole issue of leaking question papers or money for job scam started when he joined the special recruitment cell of the APPSC in July 2016. Jerang had joined the the commission in 1992 as an upper division clerk.

It may be mentioned that Taket Jerang got bail on the day when Tumi Gangkak, APPSC under secretary and assistant controller of examination was found hanging from a tree in Poma village of Arunachal Pradesh.

Obur Jerang is a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) and was arrested by the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) of Arunachal Pradesh Police on December 30 last year for her alleged involvement in the paper leakage in AE Civil Mains exam 2022, conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).
