A’chal: Police picks up 4 in connection with Atar Singh death case

Suspected K-Yung Aung or NSCN (K-YA) militants shot dead Atar Singh in the state's Longding district last evening.

The Arunachal Pradesh Police has picked up at least four persons following the death of 70-year-old trader Atar Singh last night.

Besides, traders have also called for a complete shutdown in Longding town demanding immediate arrest of the perpetrators.

It may be reminded here that suspected National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K-Yung Aung) or NSCN (K-YA) militants shot dead Atar Singh in the state’s Longding district last evening.

Singh was shot twice at his grocery shop by a group of four militants.

It is learnt that Singh was with his wife and son at the shop at the time of the incident.

The bullets hit Singh’s chest and critically injured him.

While he was immediately rushed to the local community health centre in Longding he succumbed to his injuries.

Two empty cartridges were also recovered from the site of the incident.

Hailing from Haryana, Singh’s family had shifted to Longding around 40 years ago.

The incident has created a fear psychosis in the entire area.

It may be also mentioned here that the NSCN-K-YA and other groups have been carrying out rampant extortion activities in Arunachal’s Tirap, Changland and Longding districts.

Locals have staged multiple protests in recent months demanding an end to extortion and insurgency in the area.
