AAPSU urged the state government to immediately resume the recruitment process of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) / Post Graduate Teachers (PGT)
All Arunachal Pradesh Student’s Union (AAPSU ) has given 3 months to Arunachal Pradesh government to intervene and ensure the immediate hiring of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) / Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) and fill the vacancies in state colleges.
The student body has also sought the state government’s intervention to address issues like regulating private colleges with a focus on the fee schedule and pay scale for UGC NET/JRF teachers and Non/JRF teachers.
The AAPSU on April 27, 2023 has submitted a letter to education minister Taba Tedir in this regard and urged the government to accomplish the demand within a period of three months from the date of submission of the letter.
The recruitment process of TGT / PGT was put on halt due to the infamous Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSCE) fiasco and events that unfolded thereafter.
AAPSU said that the halt of the recruitment process has caused major inconvenience in delivery of education. It may be mentioned here that the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission released job openings for TGT and PGT on August 18 and July 14, respectively, in 2022.
For the immediate filling up of vacancies for various posts of Assistant professor /Principal in several government colleges of the state, AAPSU said that the recruitment process should begin at the earliest.
Additionally, in an event of non-functional status of the commission, the government is requested to endorse the recruitment process to the department concerned. 118 positions, including assistant professors, principals, and teachers at Polytechnic colleges, are currently vacant. Six of the total positions are for principals, while seven are new positions for the Polytechnic colleges, AAPSU said.
Additionally, according to AAPSU, it is urgent to stop the state’s private colleges and universities from charging arbitrary and exorbitant fees from the students.
It said that although these institutions have been instrumental in accommodating the growing number of students in the state, but this should not serve as justification or an excuse for them to charge the students exorbitant fees.
AAPSU urged the competent ministry to set up a committee on this to initiate a thorough study and constitute uniform guidelines on fee structure and other matters concerned for all the private colleges/universities in Arunachal Pradesh.
