3-day bandh call in Itanagar from May 10-12 illegal: Arunachal District Administration

The Arunachal district administration on Monday declared the proposed three-day bandh call by some individual groups in Itanagar on social media platforms regarding the APPSE paper leak case as “illegal bandh call.”

Addressing the media, ICR District Magistrate Talo Potom said, “144 CrPC will be enforced with effect from 10 pm on May 9, and an order has been passed directing license holders to surrender arms. A Flag March would be carried out to raise awareness among citizens and discourage Bandh culture”.

People have been prohibited from carrying all kinds of arms, weapons including dao, machete, or any other lethal weapon within the entire jurisdiction of Itanagar, with immediate effect until further orders.

“Anyone found carrying such a weapon immediately after the enforcement of this order may be booked under the appropriate section of the law,” the official release said.

The minister had expressed serious concerns over shutdowns and agitations and said that “these upset the common man’s daily life. Bamang Felix said such activities frequently lead to disruption in economic activity and cause loss to property and injury to stakeholders.

“There are peaceful means to highlight attention to any issue,” he said.

Bamang Felix repeated about the government’s actions taken pertaining to the fulfilment of the 13-point charter of demands as presented by the PAJSC during the all important meeting convened by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on February 18.

“The Government has proactively taken a series of steps to bring reforms in the entire examination system. We have also taken action with reference to almost all issues as decided on 18th Feb 2023. If there was any delay, it is because, we are dependent on some independent agency or because the process is a continuous one,” said the Arunachal Pradesh Home minister.

Felix added, “It is indeed sad that the efforts have not been appreciated by a section of society and they have called a bandh from 10th May.”

A 3-day bandh from May 10 to 12 was called by some groups on social media to protest against the APPSC paper leak and alleged slow pace of investigation.
