Security forces have intensified the vigil to check influx of Rohingyas via Tripura to the rest of India. The GRP and BSF in a joint operation apprehended 5 Rohingyas including a 2-year old girl child during a checking at the Teliamura railway station in Khowai district of Tripura.
The Rohingyas were arrested on suspicion that they might be Bangladeshis who have illegally entered India. But during interrogation the individuals confessed that they were Rohingyas.
Police authorities said, “The operation was jointly carried out by the Teliamura GRP and BSF. During that time 4 suspected persons and a minor boarded the train and the GRP as well as BSF caught them suspecting them to be Bangladeshis. They were brought to the police station and interrogated. They said are Rohingyas”.
Meanwhile, the mother of the 2-year old child has already managed to evade the security cover. During probe it was found that the woman had reached Agartala almost 3 days back with the intention of moving to Bengaluru.
Police authorities added that the Rohingyas had managed to sneak into Tripura with the help of middlemen who are Indians.
It may be mentioned that in February this year as many as 16 people including 12 foreign nationals were detained by the Railway Police Force (RPF) at Agartala railway station, for illegally entering India. Among these 10 were Rohingyas and 2 were Bangladeshis.
On March 20, three Rohingyas were arrested from the Dharmanagar Railway station.
Worth mentioning, Rohingyas use the Tripura corridor of the India- Bangladesh border to enter India from the neighbouring country.
In October 2017, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had ordered all state governments to identify and monitor Rohingya refugees. The MHA had said the Centre viewed infiltration of Rohingyas from Rakhine state of Myanmar into Indian territory as a burden on the country’s resources and it aggravated security challenges of the country.
