Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to arrive in Sikkim today on a 2-day visit to the Himalayan State.
During her stay in Sikkim, Sitharaman is slated to attend a credit outreach program at Manan Kendra, Gangtok.
She would also visit the border village Kupup in East Sikkim and attend a credit outreach program by NABARD, said official statement.
The Finance Minister will leave for New Delhi on 8th January on the completion of her 2-day visit.
The Finance Minister’s scheduled visit to the border village of Kupup in East Sikkim assumes significance as this location is strategically important for its geopolitical significance, and Sitharaman’s arrival will demonstrate that improving the well-being and development of India’s borders remains an integral government priority. By engaging with residents directly, she hopes to gain valuable insights into their unique needs and aspirations.
The purpose of this event is to cater to rural people’s financial requirements and support inclusive growth as per government objectives.
During the visit, discussion concerning development, infrastructure and connectivity is expected to come up.
