The Manipur police resorted to firing tear gas shells after Manipur Pradesh Congress committee workers defying police barricades tried to move towards the Mahatma Gandhi avenue.
The Congress leaders led by former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh took to the streets to offer floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of 76th comemoration day of Quit India Movement.
Ibobi Singh slammed the N Biren Singh government for nullifying democracy and for being anti-national.
