Assam: Bangladeshi national, registered in Morigaon’s voter list, arrested on suspicion of being a Jihadi

Mandal entered India via Tripura with a Bangladeshi passport and VISA and had recently been hiding in Morigaon’s Chenimari area.

A Bangladeshi national has been apprehended from Assam’s apne life act Morigaon district’s Laharighat village on the suspicion of being a Jihadi.

After receiving information, the police ran an operation in the South Chenimari area from where they arrested an individual identified as Islam Mandal. Mandal entered India via Tripura with a Bangladeshi passport and visa and had recently been hiding in Morigaon’s Chenimari area.

Mandal’s name is in the state’s voter list Nur Islam. Police are investigating how a Bangladeshi national had been registered in Morigaon’s voter list.

A police official, speaking to the media, said, “ We have often noticed that people enter India from Bangladesh but after entering they suddenly disappear. We have also realized that many people come from Bangladesh during election time and register their names in the voter list, so this might be a case of that.”
