DMK Patriarch Karunanidhi passes away at 94

According to the Kauvery hospital release, the DMK chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi passed away at 6.10 pm on Tuesday. He was 94, the cause of death has been said to be multiple organ failure.

Putting an end of an era in Indian poilitics, former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi is no more. Karunanidhi was the chief minsiter of Tamil Nadu for as many as 5 times and was a 13-time MLA.

Arguably the tallest name in South Indian politics, Karunanidhi was widely respected in the political circles.

Earlier, thousands of supporters of the DMK chief began to gather outside the Kauvery hospital in Chennai out of apprehension.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of M Karunanidhi.

In a tweet the Prime Minister wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of Kalaigner Karunanidhi. He was one of the senior most leaders of India. We have lost a deep-rooted mass leader, prolific thinker, accomplished writer and a stalwart whose life was devoted to the welfare of the poor and the marginalised”.
